4 reasons for gender-neutral clothing for children

Unisex fashion is children's fashion

In this blog post, we'll share four good reasons why it's worth buying gender-neutral clothing ! 🌈 #ColorsAreForAll

    1. From the perspective of tailoring, there is no need for specific pattern design before the onset of puberty.

Because when creating patterns, gender-specific attributes such as bust, hips, waist, shoulders, and height are taken into account. These are all parameters that only become relevant once puberty begins.*

    2. Gender-neutral clothing gives freedom of movement

Clothing designed specifically for girls by the industry is often cut narrower and shorter than clothing designed for boys, even if the sizes are the same.
This is problematic because, based on their gender, children are provided with different opportunities to explore the world comfortably and in a way that meets their needs. Clothing that offers sufficient freedom of movement is essential for the development of diverse movements, promoting the joy of movement, and even reduces the risk of injury.*

      3. Unisex fashion is cheaper in the long run

Dividing children's clothing into gender-specific designs means more revenue for fashion labels but also more costs for consumers.
It is what it is: As long as we design children's clothing with gender-specific characteristics, the idea that there are rules about which gender we assign which motifs, colors, or other attributes will continue to persist. This also ensures that clothing is less likely to be passed on within a community of caregivers. Furthermore, tighter cuts in girls' clothing naturally also mean a shorter wear time.

      4. Gender-neutral fashion is more inclusive!

Gender-specific cuts and designs (i.e. those that show clear differences despite the same size, simply due to the attribution of the target group) do not only mean, of course, that we offer children different opportunities to discover themselves and the world around them based on their gender; this division also does not take into account children who do not identify with a purely binary distinction between genders.
