Talking to children about discrimination

There are many ways to discriminate against children – and each one hurts, undermines their self-esteem, and prevents them from reaching their potential. Whether it's discrimination against people of color, queer, disabled, or poor people, or racism against Asian, Jewish, Muslim, Black, and Roma and Sinti people:
In this book, the authors—together with experts Raúl Krauthausen, Melodie Michelberger, and many others—reveal to parents how they can sensitize children and young people to prejudice, devaluation, and exclusion and protect them from it. They offer numerous tips on helpful books, media, and games, as well as advice to support parents and other adults in conducting difficult conversations and responding appropriately, even in stressful situations.

"We hope this book will help you encourage young people to actively participate in creating a fairer and more inclusive world. Let's empower the next generation together!" Olaolu Fajembola and Tebogo Nimindé-Dundadengar

With the participation of Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç, Toan Quoc Nguyen, Tayo Awosusi-Onutor, Tanya Raab, Max Appenroth, Melodie Michelberger, Raúl Krauthausen, Tanja Abou.

FAQ

How do I properly care for cotton clothing?

We recommend washing the octopus sweater inside out at 30 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 800 rpm in a washing machine or by hand. It should not be tumble dried. After drying, the sweater can be ironed on a medium heat setting.

Where do your materials come from?

Our kids' sweaters: Our kids' sweaters are mostly made from secondhand, leftover, and surplus fabrics. We want to use what's already available in the world as much as possible. Of course, we pay attention to quality when purchasing the fabrics.

Newly purchased fabrics: The fabrics we purchase are manufactured exclusively in Europe, are made of 100% cotton (organic) and are subject to the highest ecological and social standards.

Where do you make your clothes?

Our clothing is manufactured exclusively locally in Berlin or in partner workshops in Germany. Through our work, we raise awareness for local sewing crafts and contribute to preserving the craft.

Can I pick up my order locally?

Sure! Our workshop is located in Berlin Kreuzberg. You can simply choose the "local pickup" option later during checkout, saving you the shipping costs.
